Robert Lewandowski has emerged as one of FC Barcelona’s top targets this summer, as Xavi looks to add a world-class number nine to their ranks next season.
Various reports suggest that Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich this summer.
Having won everything in Bavaria, the striker wants to try new challenges before hanging up his boots and Barcelona have become an attractive destination for the striker. He is, however, looking for a long-term contract.
A recent report from Fichajes gave an update on Barca’s pursuit of Lewandowski. It looks like the club want to include Sergino Dest as part of the deal to sign the Bayern striker, in a bid to lower the cost of the overall deal.
Lewandowski’s current contract at FC Bayern expires in 2023. But that hasn’t deterred the Bavarians from demanding a high price for the Pole, who is considered one of the best forwards to ever step on the pitch.
Bayern’s valuation for Lewandowski could reach €80m. But Barca hope to reduce the cost by offering Dest as part of the deal.
The United States international is not seen as a key member of Xavi’s first-team plans, which is why the club are open to including him in the deal to also sign Leeds United striker Raphinha.
It’s no secret that Bayern are looking for a right-back this summer, in order to add competition to Benjamin Pavard. They have set their sights on Barcelona target Noussair Mazraoui, with the club even willing to shell out big bucks to land the Morocco international.
Dest, however, could be another attractive option for Julian Nagelsmann. Bayern were interested in the United States international in 2020 before he finally decided to join Barca.
The opportunity to sign him this summer could be quite an intriguing prospect considering that the 21-year-old won’t cost as much as Mazraoui, salary-wise. But with Lewandowski involved in the equation, it’s hard to imagine the Bavarians even considering the swap deal.
