Belkin’s new $ 150 3-in-1 charger is the first to get Apple Watch Series 7 fast charging

Belkin today announced a pair of new wireless chargers for Apple Watch, including the first third-party chargers to support the new fast charging added to the Apple Watch Series 7.

The larger of the two is the $ 149.95 BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe, which follows in the footsteps of last year’s Belkin 3-in-1 Charger. In addition to adding the Series 7 fast charging, Belkin ditched the odd sculptural design of the previous model in favor of a more normal-looking, flat rectangular cushion that will likely fit better on a nightstand.

The new charger aims to achieve the perfect Apple charging trio: full speed 15W MagSafe charging for an iPhone, Series 7 fast charging for an Apple Watch, and a regular Qi charger for AirPods. Of course, as has always been the case with Belkin’s combo chargers, the price of $ 150 is much higher than what it would cost to buy individual MagSafe, Apple Watch Series 7 fast-charging and Qi chargers, this which means you’re paying a decent premium for style and convenience here. This price also includes a 40W power adapter, so you get at least a one-stop solution for your money.

The other new charger here is a little more confusing: the BoostCharge Pro portable fast charger for Apple Watch, which is a pop-up charging stand for Apple Watch that costs $ 59.95. Despite the “portable” in the name, the Belkin Solo Charger isn’t a battery-style setup for charging an Apple Watch while you’re on the go. And even more bewildering, that $ 60 price tag doesn’t include an AC adapter: although there’s a USB-C cable built into the mount, you’ll need to provide your own 20W wall adapter to actually use it. .

The net result is a larger, bulkier version of the fast charging cable that Apple includes with every Apple Watch Series 7 – except that Belkin’s version costs literally double the $ 29 price of the standalone cable.

Looking more broadly, however, is the fact that Belkin’s new fast chargers show – once again – the intentional limitations of Apple’s MFi program. Belkin’s new chargers are the only third-party fast chargers on the market right now, and if last year’s MagSafe Glacial Deployment model is anything to follow, it will be some time before others. companies can get Apple’s approval (and parts) to make other options.

The $ 59.95 BoostCharge Pro Portable Fast Charger for Apple Watch and the $ 149.95 BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe are available to order today on Belkin’s respective websites and Apple in the US, Japan, Hong Kong, and China, subject to availability. in more countries promised in the coming months.
