Joseph Parker could meet Joe Joyce next but is hoping for a fight in the United States against Andy Ruiz, Deontay Wilder or another American opponent.
The New Zealand boxer picked up two impressive wins over Derek Chisora in 2021 and has six straight wins since 2018, when he lost his WBO belt to Anthony Joshua and then suffered defeat at the hands of Dillian Whyte.
Parker is ranked No. 2 by the WBO with Joyce No. 1, with the former Olympian picking up victories over Carlos Takam and Daniel Dubois before him.
Talk to sky sportsParker’s manager, David Higgins, explained that Joyce’s team was keen on a match-up.
“He fought Chisora and dominated him, so his brand value around the world and in the UK is at an all time high,” Higgins said.
“We almost feel like he’s a local audience and he’s obviously been on a lot of big PPV shows in the UK as well.
“The question is ‘who next?’ Joseph has signaled that he would like to fight as soon as humanly possible.A possible opponent is Joe Joyce.
“Joe Joyce is obviously ranked #1 with the WBO and Parker is ranked #2. We wouldn’t take it for granted, almost a 50/50 type fight that the fans would obviously love.
“Joyce’s team contacted us and said they were going to make a written offer. Both parties have talked about the May schedule, so we’ll see what that offer looks like.
“If we don’t think their offer stacks up, I’ll offer them more and we’ll control the promotion or co-promotion with a third party.”
Higgins also suggested that a move to the United States would appeal to Parker, to meet some of America’s biggest heavyweight figures.
“I’m in the States right now and Joseph Parker has signaled that he would like to do what Tyson Fury did and go to America and beat the Americans. Not many Brits have done that,” he said.
“Joseph said he would fight any of the big names and high-ranking Americans, from Deontay Wilder to Andy Ruiz to Luis Ortiz to Michael Hunter, anyone we would look at.
“It will be interesting to see if any of these big American names are ready to step into a ring with Joseph Parker because we have certainly reached out and let it be known that the opportunity is there.
“My job now is to model what the American opportunity would look like, but right now to model what the Joe Joyce opportunity would look like, so it looks like we have some options.”
