Major change in New York could help Nets’ Kyrie Irving

NBA Analysis Network

The Brooklyn Nets have been without playmaker Kyrie Irving to start the 2021-22 NBA season. Irving remains without a COVID-19 vaccine, making him ineligible to play in games at Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden.

Not wanting a part-time player on the team, the Nets decided that Irving would not participate in practices and games with the team until he was a full-time player.

It doesn’t look like Irving is getting the shot anytime soon, but changes in New York City could see him return to court sooner rather than later.

There has been a lot of uproar in New York City over the mandates put in place by Mayor Bill de Blasio. His controversial tenure has met with much setback, but mayor-elect Eric Adams swears he will review the management of that term.

Adams won’t step on de Blasio’s feet, but he will certainly make the changes he deems best for the city once he takes office later. He urged the mayor to meet with union leaders on this and try to find a solution that everyone can agree on.

“We need to rethink how we are going to approach vaccine mandates. Now I have declared that I do not want the Mayor’s quarterback Monday morning. Now is the time for him to be the man he has to make the decisions, ”Adams said on MSNBC’s“ Morning Joe ”.

This decision is important to everyone in town, including the Nets and the New York Knicks. Adams is hopeful that de Blasio can come up with a solution, but if he doesn’t, Adams himself will do it in January.

“I hope the mayor – and I encourage him to do so – sit down with the unions and come to a resolution,” Adams, the current Brooklyn Borough president, said on the show. CNN’s “New Day”. “And if he doesn’t, if it’s still happening in January, I’m going to sit down with them and we’ll fix this.”

“If you know when you sit down at the table that no matter what, you won’t have to face what the current mayor has said, it’s unfair,” he explained of his reluctance to guess from Blasio. “I wouldn’t want anyone to do this to me as a man, and I’m not going to do it to this man.” Here is an opportunity for him to bring a resolution and when I inherit this situation I will bring a resolution.

The changes Adams refers to could change the landscape of things for the Brooklyn Nets. The warrants in place preventing Irving from playing games are a New York issue, not an NBA issue. If the tenure is adjusted and unvaccinated people can participate in the events again, Irving will likely be eligible to return to the team.

Brooklyn would certainly accept Irving’s return with open arms, as he’s a key contributor to what they seek to accomplish by winning an NBA championship.
