Manchester United could still swap Cristiano Ronaldo for a young goalscoring star, with Chelsea close to a midfield signing – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talks.
RONALDO, OSIMHEN TRADE TO MAN UTD
Manchester United could swap Cristiano Ronaldo for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in a complex but successful deal next week, according to a report.
With less than seven days to go before the summer transfer window, one big focus at Old Trafford is what will happen up front. Ajax star Antony is the main target amid claims of an £84m valuation.
Elsewhere, PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo is also on United’s radar. When it comes to outings, Ronaldo is the big name on that front. The 37-year-old would like to come out but has so far struggled to find a suitor.
Although Ronaldo could still get his wish, Napoli have emerged as a potential next club. According Gianluca di Marzio, RonaldoJorge Mendes’ agent initially spoke to the Serie A club in early August.
Contacts have since resumed – but Tutosport claims they have now taken it to the next level. Indeed, Mendes floated the idea of prolific Nigerian striker Osimhen going the other way.
THE CHEF LEARNS OF AN OPPORTUNITY
Man Utd technical director Darren Fletcher caught wind of the developments and told manager Erik Ten Hag he could secure an instant and long-term replacement for Ronaldo.
But 23 years old Osimhen, who has scored 30 goals in 64 games for Napoli, won’t come cheap. The Serie A club are claiming £100m, which could be paid in installments.
Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, is also implicated. He explained the operation to his client and believes it ‘should lead’ to the striker signing for United.
But Osimhen himself has reservations, given he would swap the Champions League for the Europa League at Old Trafford.
As for Ronaldo, Tutosport adds that he would move on a season-long loan to Napoli – in which United would pay 75% of his salary – before deciding his future again. Napoli have reportedly turned down the idea of United including Ronaldo in a deal with Osimhen to cut the 23-year-old’s fee.
